Prof. Miguel A. Bañares (Instituto de Catálisis y Petroleoquímica, Madrid, Spain)
Bañares (PhD 1992, U. of Salamanca, with Prof. Fierro); postdoctoral fellow at Lehigh U., (Prof. Wachs) and at the U. of Notre Dame (Profs. Fehlner and Wolf). He is Research Professor and leader of the Catalytic Spectroscopy Laboratory. Bañares focuses in the combination of activity measurement with spectroscopy of catalysts at work (coined by him as “operando” methodology). He is the Chairman ESF COST Action D36, Associate Editor for Catalysis Today and serves several editorial boards (Catal. Today, Catal. Letters, Top. Catal., among others) and organizes several conferences (Operando Conferences, Group Five Symposia).
Prof. M. Olga Guerrero-Pérez (Universidad de Málaga, Spain)
M. Olga Guerrero-Pérez received her B.Sc. in Chemistry in 1997 from the Autonoma University of Madrid (Spain). She obtained her Ph.D. in 2003 at the same University, working under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Miguel A. Bañares at the Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry (CSIC) and at Repsol-Ypf. From 2003 to 2008 she was working as a postdoc fellow at Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry (Krakow, Poland), Lehigh University (PA, USA), University of Cincinnati (OH-USA), Málaga University (Spain) and Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry (Spain). At the end of this period, she got a position as Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, in Málaga University, and in 2010 she was promoted to Associate. Her research lines are the synthesis of supported and bulk catalytic materials (mixed oxides and activated carbons) and the characterization of catalytic materials under reaction conditions.
Prof. Atsushi Urakawa (Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia, Spain)
Atsushi Urakawa is originally from Japan and was educated in an international environment. He obtained BSc degree in Applied Chemistry at Kyushu University (Japan) including one-year stay in the USA. Afterwards, he continued his education in Chemical Engineering at Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) for MSc study and further at ETH Zurich (Switzerland) for his PhD study. In 2006, he undertook a position as Oberassistent (Senior Scientist/Lecturer) in the group of Prof. Alfons Baiker at the ETH Zurich. Since January 2010, he joined ICIQ as Group Leader where he leads a research group with particular emphasis on the development of heterogeneous catalysts and processes based on rational understanding aided by in situ and operando spectroscopic methods.
